Arkansas man charged with assaulting wife

ALTON -- A rural Sharp County, Ark., man is in the Oregon County jail at Alton and is charged with felony assault.

According to an Oregon County Sheriff's Department report, on June 3 Roy Owens Jr., 43, tried to kill or injure his wife by pulling her from a vehicle by her head and taking her to the ground. The incident took place on Oregon County Road 264. Owens' bail has been set at $50,000.

In other local law enforcement news, Shelby A. Couch, 27, of Thayer was taken to prison June 26 by Oregon County Sheriff's Department officers.

The order to incarcerate Couch came June 25 from Oregon County Associate Circuit Judge Jo Beth Prewitt. She also revoked his probation on a burglary conviction.

Couch was ordered to serve the four-year prison sentence imposed in May 2001 when he pleaded guilty to a March 2000 burglary at Alton.
