Local talent helps Rebels to USSSA title

Thursday, July 10, 2003

The 14-and-under USSSA State Baseball Tournament held last week in Bentonville featured three local players on the roster of the Harrison Rebels.

Adam Montgomery, from ICC, and Billy Ninemire and Kolby King, Highland students, helped the Harrison Rebels capture the state title with a 14-5 victory over the Sylvan Hills North Little Rock Braves.

Ninemire hit a home run and was the winning pitcher in the Rebels' 10-8 win over the Arkansas Storm.

King posted a 2-0 record in the tourney with a 10-8 victory over the Conway Rockets, and a 8-5 win over the Northwest Arkansas Braves.

The Rebels have won nine of the seven tournaments they have played in since the first week of April, and they will play in the National USSSA tournament in Kansas City the week of July 15.

The team is coached by Highland High School baseball coach Marty Ninemire.
