Thursday, January 15, 2004

Three juveniles from Cherokee Village, Batesville and Piggott who had escaped from a detention center in Harrisburg were caught after they stole vehicles Jan. 12 from B&B Auto Sales in Mammoth Spring, said Mammoth Spring Police Chief Mike Davis.

The chief said the three males, ages 15, 17 and 16, escaped Jan. 11. They stole a 1989 Chevrolet four-wheel drive pickup truck valued at $5,000 and a Chevrolet Malibu valued at $9,000 from the car lot, Davis said.

The juveniles escaped from the center and stole a 1987 Toyota Camry and headed to Mammoth Spring, Davis said. The getaway car became disabled and the suspects parked it behind B&B Auto Sales.

The trio forced open the front door of the dealership and took keys to the two other vehicles and traveled to Indepen-dence County, Davis said. The Independence County Sheriff's Office recovered the vehicles. The suspects were taken into custody Jan. 12.

Davis said he thinks the truck was totaled in a wreck.
