Longhorns blast Tigers

The Viola Longhorns blasted the Timbo Tigers 66-22 Jan. 27 at Timbo as both squads wrapped up 2A-North Conference play.

The victory improves the Longhorns to 17-11 on the season, 5-3 in league play, good for a second-place tie with Norfork.

The Panthers hold the tie-breaker advantage over Viola by having swept the season series with the Longhorns, moving Viola to the number-three slot in the district tournament.

A game-high 24 points from Dustin "Big Country" Jones helped pave the way for Viola's win over Timbo.

Up 28-18 at the half, the Horns outscored the Tigers 28-zip in the third period en route to a big win.

The Lady Longhorns also ended 2A-North play in second place with a 52-25 rout of the Lady Tigers.

Cayla Cotter paced Viola with 13, while Melinda Guffey finished with 11 to help the Lady Longhorns improve to 17-7, and 6-2 in conference play.
