COUCH SCHOOL -- Couch School Board members were updated on the A+ program at the school at the Jan. 13 meeting. They were informed that the Missouri School Improvement Program review is about 11 months away and board members received sample copies of the parent and student surveys Couch parents and students will be asked to complete later in the school year.
The Board voted to extend Fraley's contract as superintendent through the 2005-06 school year.
Board members were told that K-3 teachers and the elementary principal are in the first stages of writing a "Reading First" grant which would provide funds for reading materials, professional development for teachers, a reading coach and other items over the next three years. The grant is due by March 1 and the school should know by April whether the school will be awarded the grant.
Superintendent Rolla Fraley discussed the budget with school board members. He shared his views on how the economy and the readjustments of state funds from last year could effect the school. He also told board members that new Missouri School Board Association (MSBA) policy updates have been received and that after further study of the policy updates they will be presented for the approval by the board.
School board members were asked to consider capital project expenses to be included in the 2004-05 budget. Projects for consideration include the purchase of a new school bus and the replacement of the roof on the top of the gym.
The building principals presented a monthly attendance report and discussed upcoming extracurricular events. Planned A+ activities were also discussed.
Fraley informed board members that LP fuel was recently delivered and that Ripley County R-III and R-IV have been billed for first semester tuition.
Lacey Sorrell was hired to fill the English/A+ vacancy through the school year. Board members voted to extend Carolyn Baker's employment through Feb. 28, 2004. They also voted to add Karen Bray's, Donald Benson's and Heather Ramsey's names to the substitute teacher list at the school.
The next regular meeting of the Couch School Board will be Feb. 10.
