The Arkansas State Highway Commission has opened bids for improvements to a roadway in Izard County, according to Commissioner Carl Rosenbaum of Little Rock and Izard County Judge Eddie Cooper.
The purpose of the project is to construct a bridge on County Road 15 over a branch of Knob Creek. Mobley Contractors Inc. of Morrilton was the apparent low bidder at $534,172.32.
"This bridge will ensure safer travel for motorists using County Road 15 in Izard County," Cooper said.
Rosenbaum noted that the county road project is funded through the State Aid Road Program established by the Legislature and administered by the State Aid Division of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. This program provides approximately $19 million annually from the state motor fuels tax to assist counties with projects of their choosing on the county road system.
Rosenbaum said construction could begin on the project in six to eight weeks, weather permitting. Construction should be completed by the fall of 2004.
