Kerry, Bush win in OC Missouri primary election

OREGON COUNTY -- John Kerry led the Democrats in the Feb. 3 Missouri Presidential Preference Primary in Oregon County. Kerry received 353 votes in the county.

Oregon County Clerk Gary Hensley said 14 percent of the registered voters in the county turned out for the primary, resulting in 1,014 votes being cast.

He said there are 7,119 voters in the county. Statewide 15 percent of all voters voted Feb. 3.

President George W. Bush received 169 votes on the Republican side of the ballot, followed by Blake Ashby with two votes. There were two uncommitted votes and Bill Wyatt received one vote in Oregon County.

Other Democratic candidates faired as follows in the county: John Edwards, 278; Wesley Clark, 101; Howard Dean, 55; Joe Lieberman Jr., 15; Al Sharpton, 9; Dick Gephardt, 8; uncommitted, 7; Dennis Kucinich and Carol Mosley Braun, 3 votes each; and Lyndon LaRouche and Fern Penna, 1 vote each.

On the Libertarian ticket, six votes were cast in the county with Gary Nolan receiving the most votes with four. Other libertarian candidates received the following: Jeffery Diket, 2; Ruben Perez, 0; uncommitted 0.
