James Franklin Dunaway, 76 of Salem, Ark., son of the late Hiram and Myrtie Olsen Dunaway was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Pensacola, Fla. He died Feb. 24, 2004, at his home in Salem.
He married Minnie Mae Walton on Jan. 19, 1952, at Lucedale, Miss. He spent his working years as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was a lineman for Gulf Power Company.
He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and later served in the United States Navy. James was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Salem.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Dunaway of Salem; four sons -- James Ronald Dunaway and wife, Judy of Salem, Richard Anthony Dunaway and wife, Faye, of Pensacola, Leslie Dewayne Dunaway and wife, Lisa, of Agnos, and Steven Alan Dunaway and wife, Deborah of Smithville, Tenn.; two daughters -- Debbie Mefford and husband, Johnny, of Agnos, and Cheryl Bryant of Agnos; four sisters -- Vera Greenway of Pensacola, Fla., Ruby Noga and husband, Henry of Auburn, N.Y., Evelyn Davidson of Grandbury, Texas, and Carolyn Burke of Robertsdale, Ala.; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters -- Clara Carlson and Effie Sunday.
The funeral was Feb. 28 at First Missionary Baptist Church of Salem. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery at Salem with arrangements by Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Memorials preferred to first Missionary Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
