Ruby Marie Looney was born the daughter of William D. Murrell and Minnie Mae Riley Murrell on Oct. 5, 1914, in Bodgett, Mo., and died March 17, 2008, in Thayer, Mo., at the age of 93.
She was united in marriage on Dec. 12, 1939, at Sikeston, Mo., to Manuel Corwin Looney who preceded her in death Aug. 17, 1999.
She was one of the founders of the Thayer Arts and Crafts and was an active volunteer with the Thayer Fun and Friends Senior Citizens Group. While serving on the Board of Directors for Housing and Urban Development, she worked on the renovation of Greentown and the development of East Meadow Housing. She was employed for several years by Pruitan Fashions in Thayer and at one time worked as tax collector for the city of Thayer.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Thayer and served as Sunday School teacher for several years.
She is survived by: four children, James Looney and wife, Carolyn of West Plains, Mo., Charles Looney and wife, CeCe of Clearwater, Fla., Anna Mae Burkhead and husband, John of West Plains, Mo., and Steven Looney of Thayer, Mo.; one granddaughter, Sara Jo Burkhead of Columbia, Mo.; one nephew, Jim Enterline of Doniphan, Mo.; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; and one sister, Thelma Enterline.
Funeral services were held March 21 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Rev. Gerald Bounds officiating. Burial was in Thayer Cemetery with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
