Perfect score for Alton Schools

Tuesday, November 20, 2007

ALTON -- Alton School Superintendent Sheila Wheeler announced last week the Annual Performance Report (APR) for the Alton School District has been completed.

"The APR is a measurement of the performance standards as determined by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Wheeler said.

The Alton School District received 14 points out of 14 points on the report -- perfect score.

"The performance standards measured include results on the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) tests, ACT scores, students taking advanced and career education courses, college and career education placements, graduation and attendance rates," she said.

Wheeler said the Alton District met all of the subject areas of communication arts and math.

"Our district also earned two additional bonus points on the MAP standards. One bonus point was earned in the voluntary MAP testing subject area of science, and the other bonus point was a Bonus MAP Achievement point which is given when a district shows improvement in at least four out of the six MAP standards," she said.

Wheeler said the school was able to use one of these bonus points in place of the Attendance Rate standard, which is the only standard the district did not meet.

Wheeler said she congratulates the faculty, staff, students and community for earning such a good report on performance. "The hard work and effort of teachers, students and parents are greatly appreciated," she said.
