Ida Ellen Kendall was born Oct. 16, 1930 in Jerusalem, Ark., the daughter of Grover Garland Hillis and Myrtie Marie Wright Hillis. She died Sept. 2, 2007, at her home in Myrtle, Mo., at the age of 76.
She was united in marriage June 6, 1948, at East Prairie, Mo., to Joseph R. Kendall.
She was a graduate of East ?Prairie High School, graduating as Valedictorian of her class in 1948.
Ms. Kendall attended Myrtle Free Will Baptist Church where she served as song director. ?Her music talent was enjoyed by many as she spent many hours singing and playing in area nursing homes.
She is survived by: her husband, Joseph of the family home near Myrtle; two daughters, Gayla Jean Nelson of Myrtle and Lisa Kay Foster of Myrtle; three grandchildren, Lena Hall, Joseph and Jonathan Foster; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Chase and Paige; one brother, Durrell Hillis of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; one sister, Vida Carmichael of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Juanita Hillis of Piedmont, Mo.; several nieces; nephews; and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; two brothers. Bervil Hillis and ?Harold Hillis; and one sister, Viva Sexton.
Funeral services were held Sept. 4 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Ralph Douglas and Terry Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
