Roy B. Washam was born Oct. 27, 1920, in Marceline, Mo., the son of the late Arthur Earl Washam and Zedna Belle Waller Washam. He died March 4, 2008, in Malvern, Pa., at the age of 87.

He was united in marriage to Lena Mae Bradshaw. He was later united in marriage on July 4, 1942, at Liberty, Mo., to Louise Qualls, who preceded him in death ?Nov. 2, 1995.

At the age of 17 he joined the CCCs. In 1943 he was inducted in the United States Army and served his country during World War II.?He received numerous awards and medals including EAME Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the American Theater Ribbon as well as the Good Conduct Medal for service rendered.

He was a member of the American Legion Charles-Burkett Post 344 in Thayer and was a former member of the VFW Post 7831 in Mammoth Spring.

He was a truck driver, delivering fuel in the Thayer-Mammoth Spring area for many years. He was of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by: one son, Roy E. Washam and wife, Millie of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; two daughters, Dorothy Reynolds and husband,?Lee of Coatsville, Pa., and Roberta Watson and husband, Ted of Highland, Ark.; three grandchildren, Stephanie McKee of Coatsville, Pa., Pat Watson of Ash Flat and Shannon Washam and wife, Jenny of Excelsior Springs,?Mo.; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Washam of Laclede, Mo.; several nieces; nephews; other reltives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; one brother, Earl Washam; and two sisters, Ardella Jones and Mary Howerton.

Funeral services were held March 14 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Mo., with Bro. Bill Bales officiating.

Burial followed in the Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, Ark., with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
