MAMMOTH SPRING -- The city of Mammoth Spring was recently awarded a grant for $13,139 to help with improvements at their ball field.
Gov. Mike Beebe presented $165,992 to 17 rural communities selected for Fiscal Year 2008 Cycle I funding through the Rural Arkansas Community Grant Program.
The awards took place at the Governor's Conference Room of the State Capitol Oct. 24.
In attendance were representatives receiving an Arkansas Rural Community Grant award on behalf of Fulton County.
Mammoth Spring Mayor Jean Pace said this phase of the grant will be used to construct a concession stand, storage area and a covered picnic area at the ball field site.
The Department of Rural Services works in partnership with the Arkansas Rural Development Commission to administer the Arkansas Rural Community Grant Programs in three cycles each year. Incorporated cities and towns in unincorporated communities in rural areas of less than 3,000 population are eligible to apply for assistance through the mayor or county judges's office.
