Clifford John Henley was born Feb. 20, 1919, in Mammoth Spring, Ark., and died Oct. 23, 2007.
Clifford received the Purple Heart award for his service in the U.S. Army in World War II. His commitment was from Aug. 1941 to Oct. 1945. In his first tour of duty, he served in France, Ardennes, Rhine and Normandy and also received four Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal.
After returning home, he married his life-long sweetheart, Irene Johnson and they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this July.
Clifford spent his first 20 working years in parking garage management. After that he was a bank courier for Purolator Courier Corporation for another 20 years. Retirement gave him time to work in his yard and do gardening. He loved people and especially enjoyed attending 31 reunions of Company M, 38th Infantry, Second Division of World War II.
He is survived by: his wife, Irene; and four children, Allen, Sharon, Marilyn and Ronald; nine grandchildren, Johnathan, Matthew, Adam, Kaymarie Jennifer, Evan, Rhys, Jaye, and Travis; and two step-grandsons, Tim and Tony.
He was preceded in death by his first son, Vernon.
Services were held at St. Marks' United Methodist Church with interment in Bethany Cemetery. Arrange-ments were by Mercer-Adams Funeral Services.
