During the first annual scholarship reception held this fall, Mary Lou Pittman, widow of the late Dr. Dan "Wally" Pittman, awarded the first scholarship in Pittman's honor to Tommy "Lynn" Williams of Hardy.
Williams, who is a non-traditional student in his second year at Ozarka with a 4.0 grade point average, has plans to become a teacher.
"It would have pleased Wally for a student such as Lynn to get this scholarship in his name," according to fellow colleague, education instructor Michelle Cooper. Pittman had expressed his high regard for students -- especially non-traditional students -- during an interview a few years back.
The faculty and staff at Ozarka College have worked hard to establish this endowment honoring their friend and co-worker. They are now over halfway to a second endowment in honor of Pittman. Anyone interested in making a contribution to the scholarship or establishing an honorary scholarship for a friend or loved one, can contact the development office at 368-7371.
