Raymond Douglas Lewis, 76, of Cherokee Village, died May 22 at the White River Medical Center in Batesville. He was born Oct. 6, 1928, at Bible Grove Township, Clay County, Ill., to R.D. and Lela Lewis.
He was educated at Flora, Ill., graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill., where he attained a bachelor of science degree in education with a minor in math
A U.S. Army veteran, he served two years in the Korean War in radio broadcasting and Leaflet Group in Tokoyo. He was employed as a salesman until moving to Cherokee Village in 1981. A 50-year member of Flora Lodge 204, Hardy Wilson Lodge 432 Scottish Rite and Ainad Shrine, a life member of Amvets, American Legion, VFW, Southern Illinois University alumni and also was a member of the Spring River Shrine Club and the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church and Methodist Men.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie Ruth Estes Lewis of the home, who he married July 16, 1955, in Mt. Vernon, Ill., two sons -- Don Lewis of Mt. Vernon, Ill., and Ernie Lewis and wife, Laura of Calverton, N.Y., one daughter, Brenda Lewis of Minneapolis, Minn.; three sisters -- Catherine Overstreet of Flora, Ill., Roberta Watkins of Cleveland, Georgia and Marie Lewis of Phoenix, Ariz., numerous nieces and nephews and host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, and three sisters.
Memorial services were May 26, 2005, at the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church with Rev. Ron Durham officiating.
Interment was in the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church Columbar-ium with arrangements under the direction of the Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City, Ark.
