Norman Eugene Langley, 78, of Thayer, Mo., was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Carter, Okla., the son of the late James Otho Langley and Alma Neva Hays Langley. He departed this life June 10, 2005, at Thayer.
He received his education in Harper, Kan., graduating in 1944. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served 22 months, 17 of those in the South Pacific where he earned the rank of 3rd class petty officer while serving aboard an LST.
He was employed by Boeing and Cessna Aircraft, worked as a fireman and was employed by Santa Fe Railroad. He was an electrician, retiring after 30 years of service in Wichita, Kan.
After returning to the Thayer area he was employed by Watson-Dillard in both Thayer and Ash Flat, Ark.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood Electrical Workers Union, the American Legion Charles Burkett Post 344 and was a 32nd degree Mason in Clifton Lodge 463 in Thayer.
He was of the Baptist faith, a devoted brother and uncle and enjoyed being with his family.
Survivors include one brother, Robert Glen Langley and wife, Gussie, of Belle Plains, Kan.; two nephews -- Les Langley and wife, Becky, their children, Lyle, Hallie and Luke of Wichita, Kan., and Kris Langley and wife, Margaret, their children, Austin and Blake of Derby, Kan.; one very special aunt, Neatibell Hays of House Springs, Mo.; and many other close relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were June 14 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe McDonald officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Legion Charles Burkett Post 344 in Thayer or to the local cancer society and left at the funeral home in Thayer.
