MODot slates road work

Thursday, February 17, 2005

The Missouri Department of Transportation will perform a crack sealing operation on Route 63 in Oregon County from Junction OO to F Highway from Feb. 14 through Feb. 18. Weather could cause delays. Work hours are tentatively scheduled from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., weather permitting.

To perform this operation, a work zone will be required. MODoT is asking that motorists plan ahead and allow extra time due to potential work zone delays and use alternate routes if possible. The work zone will be a moving operation and will involve only one lane of traffic being open at a time. MoDOT urges motorists to proceed slowly to get through the work zone. Motorists should pay special attention to all work zone signs, which will guide them through the operation safely.

MODoT performs crack sealing by adding a coat of asphalt to cracks in the existing pavement as a preventive maintenance treatment. The benefits are that it seals the cracks, preventing water from getting underneath the pavement which extends the life of the pavement in a cost effective way.

"The Missouri Department of Transportation is striving to be ever-vigilant in serving the citizens of South Central Missouri and making our transportation systems as safe and efficient as possible. We encourage anyone with input or questions concerning crack sealing, or any transportation related topic in general, to call our toll-free customer service hotline at 1-888-ASK-MODoT," said District 9 engineer Tom Stehn.

Citizens with any transportation related questions may also e-mail MODot at d9csc@mail.modot.state.mo.us.
