Oregon County USDA Executive Director Dennis Johnson announced last week that his office has begun accepting nomination forms for candidates to serve on local Farm Service Agency county committees. The nomination period is June 15 through Aug. 1
He said this year the election will be held for the committee person to represent Local Administrative Area 3, which includes Jeff, Couch, Billmore, Myrtle and Cedar Bluff townships.
"I encourage local producers to run for a position on the local Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committee and make a difference," said Johnson.
"FSA county committees have an important role in the decision making process for commodity price support loans and payments, conservation and disaster programs and other important agriculture issues in the faming community," Johnson said.
"Almost anyone participating or cooperating in a local FSA program and of legal voting age may be a candidate. People may nominate themselves or others."
Voting in the county will take place between Nov. 4 and Dec. 5.
Johnson said there are several basic eligibility requirements a person must meet before they can become an FSA committee member in the county.
Johnson said to learn about those requirements or other programs people can call his office during abnormal business hours, Monday through Friday at 417-256-5564.
