Velma Hensley Emmons, of Cave City, Ark., died Oct. 16, 2007, at Cave ?City Nursing Home; She was born Dec. 24, 1915, at Coeburn, Va., the daughter of Frank and Victoria Bond Hensley.
She was a cook at a junior high school in California.
She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Cave City.
She graduated from Radford College in Virginia and taught all 12 grades in a one-room school.
She is survived by: one son, Frank Emmons of Cave City; three daughters, Esther Emmons of Cave City, Vicky Emmons of Anaheim, Calif., and Elizabeth Alonzo of Cave City; one brother, Dallas Hensley of Santa Fe Springs, Calif.; three sisters, Lakie Harrison of Romance, Ark., Elsie Day of Santa Fee Springs, and Louise Godfrey of Norwalk, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Parsons, Joy Alonzo, Michael Alonzo, Richard Alonzo, Shelby Alonzo and Brandi Parker; eight great-grandchildren, Ethan Alonzo, Gavin Alonzo, Noah Brooks, McGregor Parsons, Sadie Alonzo, Hanna Parker, Haley Parker and Tyler Parker.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Gerald Emmons; a sister, Sarah Hensley; three brothers, Jasper Hensley, Bill Hensley and Tucker Hensley.
Funeral services were held on Oct. 18 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Cave City with Jeff Holland officiating.
Burial followed at Mount View Cemetery, east of Cave City.
Arrangements were made under the direction of the Roller-Crouch-McGee Funeral Home of Cave City.
Pallbearers included: Richard Parker, Richard Alonzo, Michael Alonzo, Kenneth Harrison, Ronnie Harrison and Rick Harrison.
Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren.
