Michael A. Willis, 49, of Melbourne was arrested March 2 in Izard County on a Sharp County warrant for felony theft of property, a class C felony. Willis was transferred to the Sharp County Jail.
Willis allegedly went to the residence of a 94-year-old Sharp County man in January and convinced the man that he was required to do some clean up and other maintenance work, according to authorities.
Authorities said Willis painted the ceiling area under the victim's carport and was supposed to do other things around the property. Willis then returned at a later date and supposedly, did additional work around the victim's property. The work was not detectable according to authorities.
Willis allegedly told the man he would need more money, but the man refused having paid Willis $1250 previously, according to authorities. Authorities said Willis cashed the check the same day it was written.
Willis was released March 4 after posting a $25,000 bail. His court date is set for April 3.
Ricky Schiltz, 44, of Guion was arrested March 3 and charged with theft of services and first degree criminal mischief.
The charges stem from a complaint that the water meter at his residence had been damaged when he broke the lock and turned the water on authorities said.
The complaint stated 3500 gallons of water had been stolen. The water had been turned off for nonpayment of services authorities said.
Schiltz had been arrested Feb. 23 on charges of theft by receiving and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Schiltz remains in the Izard County Detention Center in lieu of bond.
