Auvy Christene Payne Sanderson, of Salem, daughter of the late Joe Wheeler and Nina Etta Carroll Payne, was born Dec. 23, 1908, in Temple, Okla.
She died March 1, 2006, at Salem at the age of 97.
Auvy was united in marriage to Jesse James Sanderson on Sept. 27, 1928, at Wheeling, Ark., and to this union two sons were born.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, James Sanderson and wife, Faye, of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Jimmy Sanderson of Kansas City, Christene Banks of Kearney, Mo., Tami Smith of Nashville, Tenn., and James Rend Sanderson of Atoka, Tenn.; six great-grandchildren, Brandon Banks, Christopher Banks, Britany Smith, Colton Smith, McKenzie Smith and Chancy Walker; two great-grandchildren, Tayler Paige Banks and Tucker Walker; one sister, Mayzell Stuart of Salem; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Doyan Joe Sanderson; six brothers and three sisters.
The funeral services were held March 3 at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem with Bro. Van Brown officiating.
Burial followed in the Union Cemetery at Union, with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Pallbearers were Joe Bill Dixon, Darrell Stuart, Jerry Stuart, Cecil Dean Stuart, Mark Pate and Rick Pate.
