Loyalty Day Parade set at Mammoth Spring

MAMMOTH SPRING -- The Mammoth Spring Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7831 and ladies Auxiliary invite the community to participate in the Loyalty Day Parade and program. Loyalty Day activities will be April 29.

The theme for this year's parade is "Remembering Our Heroes." There will be cash prizes. Any entry wanting to be judged must have an entry number.

Parade lineup will be between noon and 1 p.m. The parade will start at 1 p.m. and go down Main Street approximately eight blocks. The VFW program will be held at the city park located between Sixth and Seventh Streets at 2 p.m.

VFW officials said the parade will be led by a marching color guard followed by flag units, patriots units, Loyalty Day contestants from the school, floats, bikes, ATVs, youth walkers, antique cars, horses and wagons. Bands from area schools will be spaced throughout the parade.

The program at the park will have a patriotic opening followed by introductions, speeches, music, award presentations and the crowning of the junior and senior Loyalty Day queens.

Float prizes will be $75, $50 and $25, based on flags, themes, decorations and impressions. The bikes and ATVs prize will be $15, based on decorations of vehicle and rider. Youth and adult walkers prizes will be $15, based on costuming. All entries should use a flag.

Antique car prizes will be $15, based on the judge's opinion. One prize of $25 will be awarded for the best horse and rider. All judging will be based on the use of flags, theme, costumes and decorations.

VFW officials said some of the special guests at the park will be State VFW Commander Reuben Tamiriz; VFW state Auxiliary President Jeanette Stricklin; Ladies Auxiliary District 2 President Sue Vanderpool; State Auxiliary Secretary Karen Smoral.

The Fairfield Bay Ladies Drill Team will be at the park program. Grand marshals for the parade will be ladies auxiliary member Carrie Haney and VFW member Gene Harmon.
