Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly Basketball standout Johnnie McLawhorn was recently named to the National Junior College Athletic Association's (NJCAA) Region 16 All-Region Team.
The 6-4, 185-pound sophomore wing from Greenville, N.C., was the Grizzlies' only selection to the 10-member team.
"J-Mac was our leading scorer and the leading scorer in Region 16," Grizzly Basketball Head Coach Brian Ostermann said. "He deserves to be a member of the All-Region team."
During this past season, McLawhorn led the Grizzlies in several categories, including scoring average with 15 points per game. He also scored the most points (452), had the most field goal attempts (386) and made the most field goals (178). He also had 169 rebounds for a 5.6 per game average, 56 assists and 45 steals. He connected on 44 of 126 three point attempts for a .349 average.
"Johnnie has been one of the nicest kids that I have had the opportunity to coach in 18 years," Ostermann said.
Region 16 Player of the Year honors went to Mantas Griskenas of Three Rivers Community College. Also selected to the team from Three Rivers were Artem Valov and Michael Lance. Representing Mineral Area College on the team were Willie Hassel, Ricky Claitt and John Fowler. Moberly Area Community College had two selections on the team: Mikey DeWalt and Chris Allen. Chris Noddle from State Fair Community College also was named to the team.
