OREGON COUNTRY -- U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson announced last week her staff will visit with constituents throughout the Eighth Congressional District at Congressional Connection stops.
Rep. Emerson is scheduled to be at Alton July 26 and Aug. 23 at the courthouse from 2 to 3 p.m.. Her office will be in Thayer on the same days from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Emerson said people need to be able to meet one-on-one with a member of her staff every so often to discuss casework as well as the issues facing them. "The Congressional Connection program gets staff out of the office and into communities where they can have these types of meetings on a drop-in basis. The staff member in most cases will be back in the office by the end of the day and able to pass along the result of these meetings to me as soon as possible," Emerson said.
The congresswoman has three offices in the Eighth Congressional District in Cape Girardeau, Farmington and Rolla. Staff members from each office will be responsible for the program in their respective region, establishing a closer connection between residents and the staff members who normally serve them.
"I hope this program will foster close relationships between my staff and the southern Missouri residents who need their assistance in dealing with federal agencies or getting their opinions to me. When I cannot be in Missouri, it is important for people to know I do still have staff here who can help them out," Emerson said.
