Couch School superintendent resigns position

Thursday, April 20, 2006

MYRTLE -- Couch School Superintendent Rolla Fraley presented his resignation at a special called meeting of the Couch School Board April 7. The resignation will become effective June 30.

Fraley has been superintendent at the school for 10 years. He will be leaving the job to take a position in the Lone Dell School District as superintendent.

Lone Dell is near St. Clair in Franklin County.

"It has been a pleasure to serve at Couch School. This is a good school with a good student body and a good staff," Fraley said. "There are a lot of good things that go on at Couch School."

Fraley said he would start his position July 1. He said the school district is near an urban area but is a rural school just like Couch.

After accepting the superintendent's resignation, the board voted to advertise the superintendent's position. They voted to accept applications through April 28, screen applications May 1-2, with plans to hire a new superintendent on May 4.

They hope the new superintendent will start the job at the school July 1.

On April 11 the school board met and dissolved the old school board because new board members had been elected April 4.

New school board members Steve Honeycutt and Jeff Lawrence were sworn in.

New school board officers were elected. They are: Joe Garrison, president; Ron Combs, vice president; Dean Britt, secretary of the board for executive sessions; and Boyd Sorrell, treasurer.
