Robert Garland "Bob" Gilstrap died April 4, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto in South Haven, Miss.
He was born in Salem, Ark., on Jan. 6, 1932, son of the late Robert Bernie and Tressie Lafevers Gilstrap.
He graduated from Salem High School and from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor's degree in business. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and an executive with Southwestern Bell.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Holly Springs, Miss., and a member of the Lions Club and the Telephone Pioneers.
He was an avid Arkansas Razorbacks and St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed his family, music, poetry, nature and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, formerly Nita Sutherland of Camp, Ark.; two sons, Robert Gilstrap of Hannibal, Mo., and Brian Gilstrap of Webster Grove, Mo.; one stepson, Rick Debardeleben of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Veronica Cook and Peggy Brown both of St. Louis; two stepdaughters, Suzanne Dunlap Brown of Holly Springs, and Julie Debardeleben Cohen of Newburyport, Mass. one brother, Bill Gilstrap of Little Rock; one sister, Mary Gilstrap Morrison of Onsted, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and seven stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen; a grandson, David Gilstrap and by his parents.
The service was held April 8 at First United Methodist Church in Holly Springs.
