Ralph A. Blizard, 99, of Cherokee Village died May 8, 2006, at his residence.He was born June 4, 1906 in Moline, Kan., the son of the late Ed and Orpha Bell (Magee) Blizard.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country during World War II.
Blizard worked many years as a shipping clerk for the Gordon and Piatt Company. He moved to Cherokee Village over 30 years ago, coming from Winfield, Kan. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, Lions Club and Elks Lodge. He was member of Cherokee Village United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Buehrer Blizard, of the home; two sons, Don Blizard of Cherokee Village, and Darrell Blizard of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Barbara Blizard of Winfield, Kan.; three stepdaughters, Wilma Garrison of Wichita, Kan.;' Arthuretta Courtney of Ponca, Okla., and Esther Myers of Chesapeake, Va.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma, in 1960; his second wife, Opal, in 2004; and two brothers, Carl and Paul Blizard.
A memorial service was held May 13 at Cherokee Village United Methodist Church. Revs. Bob and Kay Burton officiated.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland.
The family requests memorials be made to the church.
