Eva Gretchen Powell, 90 of Thayer died Aug. 14, 2005 in Milton, Fla. She was born the daughter of the late William Jacob Warren and Dora Young Warren on Oct. 30, 1914 in Coeta, Okla.

She was united in marriage March 12, 1940, in Yuma, Az., to John Kelsoe Powell II, who preceded her in death July 30,1984.

She was a member of the First Church of God in Thayer. She was a retired food service worker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed by all.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Powell of Thayer; her son, John Powell III and wife Marilyn of Folsom, Calif.; four grandchildren, Melynda Peacock, Daniel Schuneman and wife, Myong, James Powell and Carrie Powell; three great-grandchildren, Joshua Smith and wife, Anna, Jacob Smith and Meranda Morrison; two great-great-grandchildren, Jessa Lynn Smith and Joshua Smith Jr.; three sisters, Joanne Brown of Thayer, Bristow M. Mayo of Hamilton Mont., and Dorothy E. Templin of Thayer; one brother, James L. Warren Sr. of Thayer; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Quila Purvis, Sybal Andresen and Anne Brown; and four brothers, Harry, Fred, William Jess and John Warren.

Funeral services were Aug. 18 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Rev. Robert Brown and Rev. T.J. Brown officiating, Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
