A Civil War encampment is part of this year's activities
MAMMOTH SPRING -- This year will mark the 113th Old Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Air Force Reunion. It is scheduled for Aug. 1 through Aug. 6.
Mammoth Spring VFW Post 7831 annually sponsors the event.
This year the VFW Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor a kids talent show Monday evening and an adult talent show Tuesday evening. According to auxiliary president Dorothy Parks, those planning to enter either talent show need not pre-register, but are asked to be at the Depot between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. The first place winners in each talent show will receive $75; second place, $50; and third place $25. Chairmen for the talent shows are Lori and Theresa Huckabee.
Rides will open at 6 p.m. each evening. Parks said armbands will be available each night.
Saturday afternoon will be Kid's Day. There will be a bicycle drawing where a boy and girl each will win a new bicycle.
A Civil War encampment is planned for Aug. 6 with a skirmish set for 2 p.m. There will be tours of the encampment, drills and cannon firing demonstrations. The encampment will be sponsored by the 45th Arkansas Calvary.
The VFW Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor a cedar chest and quilt drawing Aug. 6 at 10 p.m. The auxiliary will also have knives for sale and cookbooks for sale for $6 each.
The Mammoth Springers will perform at the Depot Wednesday at 7 p.m. and the J.W. Hurtt Band will perform Friday and Saturday at the Depot starting at 7 p.m.
