Dow A. "Zuke" Sorrel, 82, of Gainesville, Mo., was born Oct. 22, 1922 in Myrtle, Mo., the son of Finis Elijah and Lillie Emma Risner Sorrell. He died July 10, 2005, at Pecan Tree Manor.
On May 11, 1945, he married Una Jean Prine in Marietta, Okla. He was employed by the Texas Highway Department for 19 years and was a member of the Fair Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Sorrell of Gainesville; children and children-in-law -- Gary and Jeanie Sorrell, Vernon and Charlotte Sorrell, Jimmy and Robin Sorrell, twins, Judy and James Miller and Allan and Pam Sorrell all of Gainesville; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings and siblings-in-law -- David and Geneva Sorrell and Bob and Mary Sorrell of Myrtle, Mo., Louise Sorrell of Thayer, Mo., Jo and Sam Gardner of Springfield, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were July 13 at the Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Garry Way, pastor of Fair Avenue Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery with arrangements by Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville, Mo.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Galen, Joseph, Jeffrey, Brendan and Matthew Sorrell and Jonathon Elder.
Honorary pallbearers were Brad Baldwin, Brian Stamper, Jeremy Hunter, Brendan Sorrell; and Carson Stamper.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fair Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund: Alzheimer's Fund or to the charity of one's choice.
