Joann Carolyn Elder, 62, of West Plains, Mo., formerly of the Thayer Mo. area, was born June 5, 1943, in North Hollywood, Calif., the daugher of the late Johannah Schultz James and Clarence James. She died July 7, 2005, in West Plains, Mo.
She was a homemaker and was a sales representative for Hormel Foods for many years. She was a devoted and loving daughter, mother, grandmother and sister, and was a member of the Church of Christ. She will be sadly missed by her family.
Survivors include two daughers -- Tonya Swetman and husband, Clay, of San Antonio, Texas, and Traci Mitchell of Mammoth Spring, Ark.; two sons -- Todd Allyn and Mark Westleigh Stiefvater both of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren -- T.C., Alexa and Mac-Kenzee Swetman, Tyler, Collin and Brianna Mitchell and Skylar and Stratton Stiefvater; her father, Clarence James of Thayer; seven brothers and sisters -- Frank James and wife, Linda, of Garfield, Ark., Randall James and wife, Norma of Garfield, Suzanne Welcome and husband, Fred, of Ozark, Mo., Paul James and wife, Belinda, of Bentonville, Ark., Jennifer Marler and husband, Jimmy of Mammoth Spring, Jacalyn Lowther and husband, Clay, of Thayer, and Jamie James and wife, Holly of Copper Center, Alaska; her former husband, William Joseph Stiefvater; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Johannah and an infant sister, Rebecca Anne James.
The funeral was July 12 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Bro. Randall James officiating. Burial was in the Thayer Cemetery with arrangements by Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer, Mo.
