DAY OF PRAYER:
DAY OF PRAYER: Rain forced the National Day of Prayer activities at the Oregon County Courthouse indoors May 4. This is the 15th year elected officials and courthouse employees have participated in the event.

OREGON COUNTY -- National Day of Prayer activities were held at Alton and Thayer May 4.

The Alton National Day of Prayer is usually held on the lawn of the Oregon County Courthouse but due to rainy weather the prayer service was moved indoors to the hallway of the courthouse.

Oregon County Presiding Commissioner Leo Warren hosted the ceremony and spoke to elected officials, pastors and residents who had gathered.

Warren focused on the need for unity in communities and country.

"We live in the greatest country in the world. We need to pray for our leaders and our country," he said.

Warren said as great as the country is, it still has a lot of problems. "If we aren't dealing with high gas prices we are dealing with illegal immigration," Warren said.

Three local pastors were in attendance. They were Jason Roberts, pastor of the Victory Free Will Baptist Church at Alton, Mark Hodge, pastor of the Alton Assembly of God Church, and Charles Trantham, pastor of the Alton Free Will Baptist Church.

Roberts said, "When a church comes together to pray it makes a difference. God said in his word when we humble ourselves and pray it will heal the land," Roberts said.

Rain also caused the Thayer observance to be taken inside the courtroom.

Thayer Municipal Clerk Rosie Simpson said the courtroom was packed. She said it was the largest turnout ever for the National Day of Prayer at Thayer.

The Youth Alive Club from Thayer High School participated in the Thayer National Day of Prayer.

Pastors from around the Thayer/Mammoth Spring area attended. Those attending were David Eaton from the Thayer Methodist Church, Scott Honeycutt from Chapel Hill Baptist Church, Wayne Hurst from the Stateline Pentecostal Church, Abel Perez from Thayer Assembly of God; Richard Robinson from Thayer Free Will Baptist Church, Nathan Cates, youth pastor at Thayer First Baptist Church, and Mike Martin, pastor of Thayer First Baptist Church.
