OREGON COUNTY -- A new foundation has been formed in the county to help with distributing grants.
According to Community Development Specialist Gary Cross, with the Oregon County University Extension office at Alton, the Oregon County Community Foundation has been formed as a not for profit affiliate of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.
Cross said the purpose of the Community Foundation is to have an organization that can capture funds for grant making purposes to be used within the communities of the county.
Cross said in the next 10 to 20 years the largest transfer of generational wealth will occur in the United States.
He said Oregon County now has an organization that can capture some of that wealth transfer.
He said anyone that has an interest in starting a scholarship, creating a family fund, school fund, or setting up a fund for grant making purposes should call Cross at 417-778-7295 or Community Foundation Treasurer Joe Crider at 417-778-7490.
One fund has already been established in the Oregon County Community Foundation and that is the Alton School Fund.
