Born 3-7-1938 -- Died 5-19-2005

Carol R. Hawkins, 67, of Hardy, Ark., passed away May 19, 2005, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. Hawkins was born on March 7, 1938, in Oak Ridge, Tenn., the daughter of Joseph Evan Owens and Annette Steincipher Owens. She was united in marriage to Eugene Hawkins on Sept. 8, 1956, in Indianapolis, Ind.

She moved with her family to Sharp County in 1968. She was a member of Spring Lake Baptist Church near Ozark Acres. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Hawkins numbered quilting, crafting and cake decorating among her many pastimes. She was retired from Century Telephone Company.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Hawkins of the home; two sons and their wives -- Donnie and Juanita Hawkins of Pocahontas, Ark., and Cliff and Kyla Hawkins of Thayer, Mo.; three daughters and their husbands -- Linda and Randy Guthrie of Paragould, Teresa and Robert Paulette of Thayer, Mo., and Brenda Reeves of Hardy; one sister, Joann Krouse of Whites Town, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Sue Rutledge.

Funeral services were May 22 at Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel in Highland with burial following in the Baker Cemetery located near Ozark Acres with Bro. Ed Stoddard officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland.

Pallbearers were Layne Hawkins, Ryan Guthrie, Chad Guthrie, Dustin Reeves, Danny Arnold, Randy Lee Rutledge and Jeremie Guthrie.

Honorary pallbearers were Randy Jean Arnold, Rick Arnold and the Thayer Varsity Basketball team.

The family requests that any memorials be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, Ark.
