FC traffic stop leads to drug charges

A Fulton County man was charged with two drug offenses May 15 after a traffic stop on north Highway 223 near Viola.Larry G. Keener, 48, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, a class C felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use, a class C felony.

According to the Arkansas State Police, Keener was a passenger in a vehicle that was driving erratically in front of a sobriety checkpoint.

Arkansas State Police Cpl. Noah Shaw said as the vehicle approached the driver, Rebecca Martin, had trouble rolling down the window.

Drug Task Force investigator Brian Sanderson said Martin and Keener consented to a search of the vehicle.During a body search, Shaw found a tube in Keener's front pocket and a jewelry bag containing a quantity of methamphetamine and a hypodermic syringe, Sanderson said.He said measuring devices and a trace amount of marijuana were also found on Keener.

Shaw said Keener told police the tube was used for methamphetamine consumption.

Officers transported Keener from the scene to the Fulton County Sheriff's Department.

Sanderson said Keener refused to give a formal statement after being read his Miranda Rights by Cpl. Ronnie Stewart of the Arkansas State Police.

Keener posted a $10,000 bond May 16 and is scheduled to appear in Fulton County Circuit Court in June.

Martin had not been charged as of press time.
