Bobcat golfers finish third

Another year, another top-four finish in Class 1 golf for the Thayer Bobcats.

The Bobcats wrapped up a productive 2005 season by coming in with a third-place showing in the Class 1 State Golf Championship at Island Green Golf Club in Republic May 16 and 17.

Thayer posted a two-day total of 674 on the par-72 course. Tipton took top honors in the championship with a team total of 655, while Marceline fired a two-day score of 670, good for second place.

Brett Ward led the Bobcat charge by carding a 77 on day one and 81 on day two for a total of 158, and a ninth-place finish in individual standings.

Layne Hawkins placed 17th in the standings with an 82 and 80, for a total of 162.

M.J. Clark shot a 169 for the Cats, with Justin Cooper adding a 194 and Josh Wemlinger posted a score of 198.

Koshkonong's Seth Johnson carded a 175 in the tournament.
