Toy drive under way

Friday, November 24, 2006

MAMMOTH SPRING -- The 2006 Toys for Tots drive in now under way. The drive is sponsored annually by VFW Post 7831 and Ladies Auxiliary of Mammoth Spring,

Boxes will be placed throughout the stateline area for anyone wanting to donate a toy to the drive.

The Thayer FBLA will be collecting for Toys for Tots and will donate the toys collected to the project to help the needy children in the area.

A VFW spokesman said new or good used toys can be left at Cotham Auction Barn and Mammoth Spring City Hall.

All toys collected in the stateline area will be distributed with the help of Santa at a Christmas party at the VFW in Mammoth Spring. The party will be closed except for invited families that will be receiving the toys and the VFW Toys for Tots committee.

Anyone who would like to donate a toy for the program or anyone who knows a family who might need help can call VFW Commander Bob Turner after 6 p.m. at 625-7628 or VFW Auxiliary President Dorothy Parks at 625-7667.

"The VFW and ladies auxiliary are grateful for the help received from area businesses and employees. We encourage the area to help support the Toys for Tots program by supporting the businesses in the area. Many children in the area have received Christmas toys in the past due to the VFW's Toys for Tots campaign," Parks said.
