Mardi Gras a possibility

Moose Club researching themed parade for Salem

Mardi Gras in Salem? The Salem Chamber of Commerce discussed the possibility Nov. 15.

Bruce Springston attended the meeting on behalf of the Fulton County chapter of the Loyal Order of Moose to address the chamber about the possibility of a Mardi Gras parade in Salem.

Springston, who is a trustee and current acting administrator of the Moose, told the chamber that the organization is interested in organizing a Mardi Gras themed parade in Salem. Springston said the Moose had begun making plans but wanted to speak with the chamber to see if there was any interest before further arrangements were made.

"We've been quiet in the past few years, but we're looking to get more involved in the community with this parade," Springston said.

Ron Plumlee also addressed the chamber regarding the Fulton County History Book.

Plumlee, who is book chairman of the Fulton County Heritage Foundation, announced the final deadline for book submissions has been pushed back to Dec. 15.

Those interested in having their family included in the book need to submit an old or recent family photo and a 500-word or less typed description of how their family came to Fulton County, according to Plumlee.

"It would be a great keepsake gift, but you don't even have to buy one to be included," Plumlee said. "We just want to encourage everyone to put their histories in the book."

Pamphlets describing the book and order forms can be found at various businesses throughout the county, according to Plumlee.

Those with questions pertaining to a Salem Mardi Gras parade can contact the members of the Loyal Order of Moose at 895-3640.
