George William Powell, 74, of Yakima, Wash., formerly of Oxford, Ark., died Dec. 28, 2005 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Powell was born Nov. 20, 1931, in Arkansas, the son of the late Bryan and Audie Dockins Powell. He received his education in Arkansas.
He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.
He married Hazel Owens on June 11, 1956, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and they made their home in Yakima. He worked for various mobile stations as a mechanic: Big Y Packing Shed, Northwest Pack, Valley Juice, in Hi-Country Juice and most recently NAMUS.
Powell was a handy mechanic and there wasn't much he couldn't do. He liked to collect all sorts of things, carpentry, cooking at his son's team ropings, and hauling steers to various rodeos.
He was a dedicated father, grandfather and loving husband.
His wife, Hazel, graduated from Salem High School with the class of 1954.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Hazel; two sons, Rod (LaRae) Powell of Auburn, Wash., and Steve (Tawnya) Powell of Yakima; one daughter, Patty Urvina of Yakima; seven grandchildren, Skylar, Colby, Trentyn, Seth and Shawnee Powell, and Heather and Jeremy (Michelle) Stroud; two brothers Gene (Ina) Powell of Kansas City, Mo., and Dene (Virginia) Powell of Moxee; and many family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Bobby Powell and Johnny Powell and his parents.
