The News and its sister publication, the Villager Journal, picked up 20 awards in the annual Better Newspaper Contest of the Arkansas Press Association.
The awards were presented in the association's annual convention in North Little Rock June 17.
Reporter George Jared won first place in the News Story category.
Managing editor David Cox took first place for editorials.
Sports editor Terry Mullins took first place for Sports News Story.
Reporter Chris Wulff, along with Cox and news editor Kelly Barnett, took first place in the Picture Page category.
The contest is judged each year by members of another state's press association. This year's contest was judged by the Louisiana Press Association.

Areawide Media also won one advertising award in the APA's Better Newspaper Advertising Contest. The award was also presented at the convention. Joetha Broyles took second place in the category of Use of Two or More Colors for an ad for Gray's Saddlery which appeared in Escape 2004.
