Clifton Ivan Chron-ister was born the son of Ora Edward Chronister and Arena J. Parrott Chronister on Nov 10, 1924, at Alton, Mo., and died Feb. 18, 2008, in Springfield, Mo., at the age of 83.

He was united in marriage Feb. 1, 1947, at Salem, Ark., to Nadene Blakley.

Ivan served in the United States Army during World War II and received numerous awards of distinction. He was a school bus driver for the Alton R-IV School District for 39 years. He owned and operated a hickory mill for several years and also worked as a river patrolman in Oregon County. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by: his wife, Nadene Chronister of the home in West Plains, Mo.; three daughters, Carol Jean Pitts and husband, Curtis of Thayer, Mo., Linda Jane Pierce and husband, Roy of West Plains and Mary Jo Cook and husband, Kenny of Malden, Mo.; five grandchildren, Melissa Clark and husband, Stephen of Branson, Mo., Matthew Pitts and wife, Valerie of Thayer, Marc Pitts of Thayer, Bethany Bailey and husband, Brandon of Thayer and Blakley Cook of Malden; three great-grandsons, Gaige and Easton Pitts of Thayer, Landry Pitts of Thayer and one step-grandson, Cameron Clark of Thayer; two brothers Dorlas Chronister of West Plains and Gene Chronister and wife, Wanda of West ?Plains; several nieces; nephews; one aunt, Verble Mauldin of Alton; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Ora and Arena Chronister; two sisters, Louise Shrum and Clessie Shehorn and one brother, Dallas Chronister.

Funeral services were held Feb. 21, in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel at Thayer, Mo., with Rev. Glenn Murray and Rev. Jason Roberts officiating.

Burial followed in the Hickory Grove Cemetery near Alton with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.

Pallbearers were Kevin Hedden, Michael Elder, Billy Webber, Truman Parrott, Gary Chronister, Clif Hawkins, Steve Atkisson.

Honorary pallbearers were Glen Jenkins, Joe Cockman, John Barton, Bob Chronister, Rich Wallace and Gary ?Mitchell.
