Iva Lota Smith of Mammoth Spring, Ark. was born June 1, 1928, in Mammoth Spring, the daughter of the late Oscar Powell and Rose Etta Martin Powell. She died Feb. 17, 2008, in West Plains, Mo., at the age of 79.
She was a seamstress working for many years for Puritan Fashions in Thayer. Later she became manager of the Mammoth Spring Estates in Mammoth Spring. She was a member of the Pilot Church of Christ.
She was united in marriage on June 8, 1946, in Mammoth Spring to Herbert Kenneth Smith, who preceded her in death May 3, 1987.
She is survived by: one son, Jerry Smith and wife, Jo Kay Smith of Mammoth Spring; two sisters, Clara Hopkins of Springfield, Mo., and Bertha Millsap of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; and several nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Oscar and Rose Etta Powell; her husband, Herbert Smith; four brothers, Roy, Marvin, Arvy and Olen Powell; and two sisters, Hattie Gieb and Gladys Godwin.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Mo., with Arvil Hill and Rick Ragsdale officiating. Burial followed in the Pilot Cemetery near Mammoth Spring with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
