An Elizabeth woman was injured after leaping from a car on Highway 62/412 about 6.4 miles west of Viola.
Virginia Long, 20, of Elizabeth was sitting in the rear seat of a Ford Windstar van driven by Lilly Mae Long, 46, of Elizabeth when she jumped from the vehicle, which was traveling at a speed of 50 to 55 miles per hour, according to authorities.
Fulton County Sheriff Walter Dillinger said Long had been staying at a battered women's shelter in Izard County prior to the incident.
Authorities said Long struck the pavement and slid before coming to rest on the north shoulder of U.S. Highway 62. She was transported to White River Medical Center in Batesville by Air Evac.
Dillinger said Long suffered multiple injuries, which included bruises and cuts as well as a laceration to her head which she had to get stitches for.
Long was released from White River Medical Center and is currently staying in Salem, Dillinger said.
