Mammoth Spring coach resigns

Thursday, February 23, 2006

MAMMOTH SPRING -- The Mammoth Spring School Board voted to accept the resignation of boys' basketball coach Bob Maguffee at their Feb. 9 meeting. Feb. 15 was Maguffee's last day of employment at the school. His contract was until the end of this school year. Maguffee has coached at Mammoth Spring School three years, and this year, for the second time, was named 2A-East Junior High Boys' Coach of the Year.

He said he is leaving his position to pursue other career opportunities. The school board is now accepting applications to fill the coaching position and is hoping to have the position filled in the near future.

Mammoth Spring Elementary School and High School principals Wade Powell's and Brian Davis' contacts were renewed through 2007. Superintendent Ron Taylor's contract was renewed through the 2008-09 school year.

The board passed a resolution to dedicate monies to add restrooms and an addition to the library. This is part of the application process for state funds through the state Partnership Program. The project will cost $177,770. Taylor will present an application to the state for the project and, if approved, the state will pay 52 percent of the project. Taylor said, if approved, the project will start after July 1.

The school board voted to replace some of the door and window units in the community building at the high school. Bids on the project will open March 13.

Taylor presented a report to the school board telling them the school's enrollment is at 455 students and that does not include the 20 students in the preschool program at the school. He said this is the seventh quarter in a row in which there has been an increase in student population at the school.
