Gary R. Workman, 66, of Sterling, Neb., formerly of Murray, Neb., died Oct. 26, 2007, at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh. He was born Sept. 28, 1941, in Shubert, Neb.
He graduated from Stella High School and then graduated from Peru State Teacher's College with a degree in secondary education in industrial arts and science.
He married Eldona Dettman in August of 1963, in Stella, Neb. He taught school and coached for eight years in Trumbull and Osceola. He then owned and operated his own plumbing and heating business in Murray for many years.
He moved to Florida and Louisiana where he was a shrimper and commercial fisherman for several years.
Workman then moved to Horseshoe Bend, Ark., where he worked for the city and raised cattle.
In July of 2007, he moved to Sterling to be closer to his family. He enjoyed animals, being outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include: his daughter, Michelle Salberg and her husband Chris of Sterling, Neb.; three grandchildren, Kharisa, Jeslyn and Brielle Salberg; a sister-in-law, Betty Hartter of Sabetha, Kan.; one nephew; six nieces; and Aunt Gladys West of California.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Lawrence and Edith Pruett Workman; and a brother, Harold Workman.
Memorial services were held at Hopewell United Methodist Church of rural Stering on Nov. 1, with Rev. Jenae Bauer officiating. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be at the South St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Sterling.
A memorial has been established to the family's choice with Zink-Fox Funeral Home in charge.
