Royce C. Hollis was born the son of Alvin Hollis and Allie Honeycut Hollis on May 18, 1918, in Thayer, Mo., and died Oct. 29, 2007, at his home near Thayer, Mo., at the age of 89.
He was untied in marriage Jan. 20, 1946, at Kansas City, Mo., to Nora Storms.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country during World War II. He received numerous awards and citations including the Purple Heart, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars. He also received the World War II Victor Ribbon, one Overseas Service Bar, the Good Conduct Ribbon as well as the American Theater Ribbon. After his service career, he was employed by General Motors in Kansas City, Mo., for several years, later returning to Oregon County to farm and raise his family.
He was a charter member of the Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church where he served as deacon and member of the Board of Trustees Planning Committee. He also served as Church Superinten-dent, Sunday School teacher and song leader.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nora of the family home; one daughter, Deborah England Grumbein and husband, Eldon, of Lee's Summit, Mo.; one son, David D. Hollis of Thayer; one grandson, Joshua England of Blue ?Springs, Mo.; one brother, Waymon Hollis of Lawson,?Mo.; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Alvin and Allie Hollis; one granddaughter, Rebecca England; and five brothers, Floyd, Floyce, Winford, Alvin Jr. and Robert Hollis.
Funeral services were held Nov. 1 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer. Burial followed in the Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
