Brown sentenced to 15 years

SPRINGFIELD -- An Alton man, Jerry Brown, was sentenced Dec. 17 to 15 years in federal prison without parole for illegally possessing firearms.

According to U.S. Attorney John Wood, with the Western District of the Missouri Attorney's Office, Brown, 47, pleaded guilty Aug. 28, 2007, to being in possession of several firearms and ammunition July 3, 2005, in Oregon County.

Woods said Brown was sentenced as an armed career criminal due to his previous violent felony convictions and serious drug offenses. Brown has prior criminal felony convictions for sexual assault, manufacturing a controlled substance and burglary.

The case was prosecuted by special agents with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Springfield, and was investigated by the Oregon County Sheriff's Department, the Green County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Explosives.
