Richard Allen Rains, 46, died Jan. 12, 2006, at his home in Rockwell, Texas.
He was born June 26, 1959, in Garden City, Kan., to Charles Dempsey and Margie McVey Rains.
On Sept. 14, 1996, he married the love of his life, Holly Newman, at Marianna, Ark. He attended schools in Kansas and was a 1977 graduate of Oxford High School in Oxford, Ark.
During the summer of 1977 he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Blytheville, Ark., as a security policeman. He later served in Rimini, Italy, for three years. In 1982, he returned to the states and trained in avionics. While stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Last Vegas, he received an award for submitting a significant cost reduction suggestion to the air force. In 1987, he received an honorable discharge from the Air Force and in 1998 retired from the Air Force Reserves.
Rains continued pursuing his interest in computers and networking while working for a number of large networking companies before stating his own company in 2003. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his two sons. He also enjoyed racing cross country motorcycles. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Terrell, Texas, and was also active in the Rockwall Chamber of Commerce and the LCM Group.
Survivors include his wife, Holly; his sons, Richard Allen Rains Jr., (RJ) and Howard Thomas Rains (Howie) of the home; his parents, Charles Dempsey and Margie Rains of Russellville, Ark.; sisters, Marjeana Taylor and husband, Ronnie of Russellville, and Traci Tabor and husband Donnie of Russellville, brothers, Randy Rains and wife, Suzi of Farmington, Mo., and Tim Rains and wife, Julie, of Lakin, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tim and Bessie Rains and William and Donna McVey.
Rains will be missed by all his family and friends.
The funeral services were held Jan. 18 at the Salem First Baptist Church with burial in Union Cemetery.
