Paul William Schuster, 78, of Thayer, Mo., was born Oct. 14, 1926, in Springfield, Mo., the son of the late George Schuster and Artie Weaver Schuster. He died July 25, 2005, in Springfield.
He was married on Nov. 1, 1957 in West Plains to Doris Ann Davidson Mondy, who preceded him in death Dec. 21, 2003.
He was a student at Thayer High School when he was drafted in the United States Army during World War II. During his tour of duty he served at SingSing Prison in New York and played basketball for the Green Hornets, an army basketball team. After serving his country, he returned to Thayer High School to complete his education.
He was active in his community, serving as Boy Scout leader, coached elementary basketball and football teams and volunteered many hours at Fun and Friends Senior Citizens Center in Thayer and was an avid sportsman.
He was a train conductor, employed by Frisco, Burlington -Northern/Santa Fe Railroad for approximately 40 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason in the Clifton Blue Lodge #463 and the Scottish Rite, HOST Shrine Club, the Spring River Shrine Club and the American Legion Charles Burkett Post #344 in Thayer. He was a long-time member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Thayer, Mo. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Schuster of Mountain View, Mo.; a son, Stephen Mondy and wife, Melissa of League City, Texas; five grandchildren -- James, Elizabeth, Grace, Rachel and Jessie Mondy all of League City, Texas; a brother, Bonnie Schuster and wife, Gerturde of Thayer and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris and one sister, Georgia Cosby.
The funeral was July 28 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, with Carl Younger officiating. Burial was in Thayer Cemetery with arrangements by Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
